What types of sperm deformations are there?
Teratozoospermia is a sperm disorder based on the bad morphology of sperm in the semen of a male. This causes male infertility by hindering the achievement of a natural pregnancy .
The sperm can suffer malformations in its head, neck or tail, possibly due to some failure during its formation process ( spermatogenesis ).

Abnormal spermatozoa
The World Health Organization (WHO) states that a sperm with perfect morphology should have the following characteristics:
- Oval head and well defined acrosome region in the apical part (upper zone). If there are vacuoles, they can not occupy more than 20% of the area of the head.
- The neck must be attached to the head by the axial part (area opposite the acrosome) and its length must be 1.5 times that of the head.
- The tail should measure about 45-50 microns in length and be thinner than the rest of the sperm.
- The total length of the sperm must be about 50 to 60 microns in total.
Sperm that escape these parameters will be considered as amorphous or abnormal.
