What happens in week twenty-two?

Here are some of the most significant changes and symptoms that occur in the body of pregnant women this week:

Changes in the skin

In this period it is usual to notice changes in your skin. There may be red spots or spots on the face, neck, chest area and extremities. These are spider veins that are generated by high values ??of estrogen and usually disappear after delivery.

Another frequent alteration in the skin is the presence of stretch marks. You will notice how the skin has a different texture and there are marks or furrows left, which is due to the stretching of the skin. You can avoid or diminish its appearance by keeping the skin well hydrated with specific creams and essential oils.

Braxton-Hicks contractions

The Braxton-Hicks contractions begin to appear at this time. These contractions are not especially noticed, they are not like the contractions of childbirth.

You may notice at a certain time that the belly becomes hard, which is due to the state of the uterus, which passes from relaxation to contraction. These movements are essential to prepare pelvis and uterus at the time of delivery.

Leg cramps

You may have been woken up at night by a strong cramp in your legs. This is a typical discomfort during pregnancy due to the extra effort your back supports.

The curvature of the spine changes during pregnancy to compensate for excess weight, so that the lower part is thrown forward. By this deviation, the nerve that goes to the legs is compressed, which triggers those uncomfortable cramps.

How is the fetus?

At 22 weeks of gestation your child begins to develop a certain pattern of activity and sleep.

You will probably be more active while you rest. The muscles continue their development, so that the future baby can move more vigorously. Their movements are possible thanks to the length of the umbilical cord, which allows the movement of the fetus inside the amniotic sac in which it is located.

At the end of this week it measures around 24 cm from the head to the feet and its approximate weight is 400 grams.
