Programmed intercourse: what it is, how it works and its results
Programmed or directed intercourse is a simple technique of assisted reproduction based on ovulation control to determine the moment in which to have sexual intercourse in search of pregnancy.
In this article we will explain the treatment to be followed as well as the probability of success of this reproductive process.

What is the coitus directed?
For the pregnancy to take place, it is necessary that the ovum and sperm are fused and give rise to the embryo, which must be implanted in the maternal uterus to continue its development until delivery.
The ovum is inside the ovary and, when it reaches its final state of maturation, is expelled to the fallopian tubes. This is what we know as ovulation and it occurs approximately mid-cycle.
Out of the ovary, the ovum is only able to survive about 24 hours, so the sperm only have this time to reach it and fertilize it.
The programmed sexual relations consist in making coincide the moment in which the woman releases the ovum to the Fallopian tubes with the ejaculation of the man, that is to say, with the entrance of the sperm to the feminine reproductive aparto. It is, therefore, to synchronize ovulation with the intimate relationships of the couple.
Scheduled relationships at the time of ovulationIn this way we increase the probability that ovum and sperm meet and fertilization can occur.
Step by Step
To be able to indicate to the couple the suitable moment to have the sexual relations that favor the pregnancy, the menstrual cycle of the woman is controlled by means of sanguine analyzes and ultrasounds.
Based on these, the moment of intercourse is planned and, about two weeks later, the pregnancy test is performed to determine the effectiveness of the technique, that is, whether or not there has been pregnancy.
As we see in the following image, the programming of the relationships can be done naturally (without medication) or giving the woman hormonal medication to better control the follicular development and ovulation.
