Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome in natural pregnancy
Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS) is a very feared complication, which can occur when an ovulation induction treatment is made from exogenous hormones. In its most severe form (which only occurs in 0.5 to 5% of cases) there is a marked increase in the size of the ovary with ascites, pleural distension, hemoconcentration and an electrolyte imbalance.
Occasionally there have been symptoms such as respiratory distress, vascular thrombosis, cerebral infarction, acute myocardial infarction, multisystemic failure and even death. The incidence of this type of syndromes spontaneously, without receiving exogenous medication, in a pregnancy conceived naturally is extremely rare.
Next, we will describe a clinical case of OHS in a natural pregnancy and what the consequences were.
Below you have an index with all the points that we will discuss in this article.
