Hypothyroidism and pregnancy
Symptoms and diagnosis
The symptoms depend on each person and are difficult to perceive, sometimes they can even be confused with symptoms of depression. The most common are: constipation, pallor or dry skin, swelling of face, hands and feet, hoarseness, slow speech, fatigue, involuntary weight gain, heavy menstrual periods, greater sensitivity to cold and muscle cramps. A person may not present all of them.
Hypothyroidism can be diagnosed by a blood test that measures the values ??of thyroid hormones and thyroid stimulating hormones (TSH) from the pituitary gland.
Pregnant women are given a complete study. In the case of the thyroid, the study of free T4, TSH and antithyroid antibodies is requested.
