Gynecological examination
Given the suspicion of endometriosis, the first step to follow is to perform a physical examination, a complete pelvic examination. Normally it does not allow to diagnose the endometriosis, since the implants can be located outside the pelvic cavity or the size of these can not be big enough to touch them.
Even so, if one of these signs is discovered it could be indicative of endometriosis:
- Pain when palpating the bottom of the vagina or the uterine ligaments
- Painful nodules on the bottom of the vagina, ligaments, or rectum
- Pain with the movement of the uterus
- Masses in the fallopian tubes or ovaries
- Lateral displacement of the cervix
- Ovaries, fixed fallopian tubes or uterus, without mobility
Just by feeling the gynecologist can not reach a reliable diagnosis. It will be necessary to do more tests.
