What is the endometrium?
The endometrium is defined as the inner layer of the uterus of mucosal nature. This increases its thickness as the menstrual cycle progresses, finally, shedding with menstruation if pregnancy has not taken place.
Therefore, we will find that the endometrium has a different thickness depending on the day of the menstrual cycle.
After an ovum has been fertilized by a sperm in the fallopian tube, the formed embryo will travel to the uterus and implant in the endometrium.
For implantation of the embryo to take place, the endometrial thickness should be approximately 7 to 10 mm. In general, this corresponds to days 19-21 of the menstrual cycle, which is when the endometrium is receptive. This period of time is known as the implementation window.
