What is surrogate pregnancy?
To begin with, it is important that we remember what gestation or surrogate pregnancy is. It is a contract by which a woman agrees to give birth to the baby of a woman, man or couple due, mainly, to the inability of the latter to carry a pregnancy to term.
What is the surrogacy? The woman who is pregnant is known as a surrogate mother or also as a surrogate mother or a surrogate mother. These last two concepts are erroneous, since this woman is not recognized as the future mother of the baby she has gestated.
On the other hand, the woman, man or couple who wants to have a child and resorts to the help of a surrogate mother are the parents of intention.
Preferably, the embryo that will give rise to the future baby will be generated from the gametes (ovules and sperm) of the future parents. If this is not possible, there is the possibility of using sperm and ovules from donors. The tendency is to prevent the pregnant woman from contributing the genetic load to reduce, as far as possible, her bond with the baby.
For this same reason, the technique of assisted reproduction that is applied in most cases is in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Other terms coined to this process are: surrogate motherhood, substitution gestation, uterine subrogation, rental uterus, surrogate fertilization or gestational surrogacy.
