Menstruation: symptoms and characteristics of bleeding

Menstruation is the vaginal bleeding that occurs at the beginning of the menstrual cycle of women and that corresponds to the peeling of the endometrium when there has not been a pregnancy.

This stage of the menstrual cycle is also known as a period or rule, since it has periodicity, that is, it is a cyclic process that is repeated every month.

Despite this, menstruation can vary from one cycle to another in each woman in terms of the amount, appearance and duration of bleeding, and in each woman can manifest in a different way.

Menstruation: symptoms and characteristics of bleeding

symptom

Vaginal bleeding is the most characteristic symptom of the menstrual period.

However, there are also other symptoms that the woman may feel with the lowering of the period. We discuss them below:

  • Pain and swelling of breasts
  • Pain and abdominal cramps
  • Kidney pain
  • Headache
  • Acne
  • Humor changes
  • Fatigue
  • Gastrointestinal disorders: nausea, gas, diarrhea or constipation

It should be noted that some women suffer from a marked premenstrual syndrome, that is, both emotional and physical symptoms appear before the arrival of menstruation.

To combat all these symptoms it is advisable to eat a healthy diet, drink plenty of water, avoid salt, reduce the level of stress and, if necessary, take an analgesic.
