What is semen donation?

The sperm donors must undergo an exhaustive medical control that guarantees a good state of health. They must also have a seminal quality above the average to maximize the chances of pregnancy of the patient.

Quality of a donor's semen

A donor must have a quality and quantity much greater than necessary to achieve a pregnancy because all donated semen is frozen for 6 months and it is very important that there are enough good mobiles so that in the process of freezing and thawing there are still a good amount to perform any technique of assisted reproduction.

Therefore, the fact that a donor is rejected in the process does not mean that they have a fertility problem, but that they do not reach the minimum required to be an eligible donor.

  • Lesbian couples.

If it is used in a heterosexual couple, it is important that the man understands and accepts everything that implies resorting to the donation of semen. Given the possibility of transmitting a hereditary disease that can not be diagnosed by PGD, the only option to have children without putting their health at risk is donation. The same happens if there is the possibility of spreading a sexually transmitted disease, after the semen washing does not guarantee the elimination of the virus.

The son will be the son of the couple who is undergoing the treatment with donation of semen. For practical purposes, the donor will not appear in any document related to the child, being his father for legal purposes the male of the couple in treatment.
