Semen density

Many men wonder if their semen is very thick or on the contrary if it is too liquid. When the sperm is expelled in the ejaculation it must have a thick consistency. However, a very dense ejaculate can affect other parameters of seminal quality such as the mobility of sperm and therefore lead to problems of male fertility.

Below you have an index with all the points that we will discuss in this article.

The density of semen: how does it affect fertility?

The density of sperm not only varies from one men to another but also in the different ejaculations of the same man depending on several factors such as the time of abstinence from ejaculation, the pleasure experienced, the feeding or the level of fatigue.

Thick or liquid sperm?

At the time of ejaculation the semen is dense because in this way it is expelled better and the arrival of a greater number of sperm to the vagina is guaranteed. It is important to remember that the ultimate goal of the sperm is to fertilize the egg, so all sperm must go a long way to reach the fallopian tubes where the encounter with the oocyte will occur.

To facilitate that the greater number of sperm reach the vagina, the semen is expelled in the form of clots, which is why its consistency is so dense. This is due to a substance that generates the prostate called spermine phosphate and semenogelinas proteins that are responsible for coagulating the sperm.

So that once in the vagina the sperm can ascend through the female tract, there are other proteins called lysines whose main function is to liquefy the semen within 10 minutes of being expelled. Thus, once the sperm are released, they can advance along the expensive path of the female reproductive tract.

If the semen was completely liquid during its expulsion it would leave the vagina more easily and it would be more difficult to get the pregnancy.

Questions from users

Does the color of the ejaculate indicate that it is too dense?

The color of the ejaculate can be helpful when analyzing seminal quality. A semen of very transparent color may indicate low sperm concentration and / or a more aqueous or liquid consistency.

On the other hand, an intense white color may indicate a higher concentration of sperm.
