  • So that the semen is something more fluid and thus facilitate the suction, we will add a little serum. The serum should be at the same temperature as the human body, at approximately 36-37 ° C.
  • We suck the semen with the syringe.
  • The recipient lies in the same position as in the gynecologist, with the legs open slightly upwards.
  • Insert the syringe into the vagina, carefully, and gently pour the semen inside. We must carry out this step slowly so as not to produce any scratch. It will be easier with help, that is, if it is not the woman herself who introduces the syringe, although it can be her.

To increase the success of homemade artificial insemination, it is recommended to control the menstrual cycle and self-inseminate in the middle of the cycle, which is when ovulation usually occurs. It is considered that the woman's ovarian cycle begins the day the rule falls and consists of 28 days so that half of the cycle would coincide with the 14th day after the rule falls.

Home vaginal insemination is not considered a medical technique, since it does not require any qualified professional. It is the woman herself or her partner who performs the process at home. For this reason, there are no studies that assess the success rates of this procedure.

The technique is simple and inexpensive so many couples try it as a first option for fertility problems. However, it must be taken into account that the effectiveness of homemade artificial insemination is similar to sexual intercourse and probably even somewhat less because the sperm goes through some manipulation since it is ejaculated (deposition in the tube and aspiration in the syringe), and if it is not done correctly it can deteriorate. In fact, in the case of semen of the couple, if they spend more than three hours from masturbation, it is considered that the ejaculate is no longer viable.

On the other hand, if the semen is donor, it undergoes a freezing and thawing process that can also influence its properties. When a woman buys semen from a sperm bank, she receives it at home frozen and must strictly follow the instructions given by the bank for the proper thawing of the sample.
