Explanation of treatments

Previous studies

Maternidad HM Belén has the most advanced technologies for assisted reproduction. Each case will be dealt with in an individualized manner, conducting studies on each of the couple and studying the case.

Within the masculine studies, the main one is a seminogram to see the quality of the sperm and based on the result to carry out more tests. A very useful test is the fragmentation of sperm DNA with which the viability of these will be known.

In the case of women, there will be a physical exploration through ultrasounds and consultations with the gynecologist as well as blood and hormonal analyzes, among others.

Artificial insemination and in vitro fertilization

The couple can opt for artificial insemination, in which the doctor will introduce by means of a very thin cannula the sperm of the couple or spouse (IAC), or of a donor (IAD).

On the other hand, for those cases where there is a probability that the offspring have a genetic disease, an in vitro fertilization (IVF) may be performed, or also when the AI ??has not yielded good results.

IVF techniques are based on extracting the oocytes from the mother, inseminating them in the laboratory, and transferring them back to the pregnant mother. There are several ways that fertilization occurs, and depending on the state of the sperm, one or the other technique will be more advisable. Conventional IVF is based on fertilization taking place by itself, however in ICSI a sperm is microinjected into the cytoplasm of the ovule.

Prior to performing each reproductive technique, the best sperm are selected, this is called training. In the clinic they have two very efficient ways of sperm selection by gradients and columns (MACS). This will greatly decrease the likelihood that the embryo that forms will have DNA defects.
