Stimulate the ovarian cycleThe stimulation is done for two main reasons:
- Know the exact moment in which the menstrual cycle of the woman is found.
- Stimulate ovarian production so that more than one oocyte matures, so as to increase the chances of getting pregnant.
There are several stages within the hormonal treatment. At the beginning contraceptives can be prescribed to control the menstrual cycle and once the last rule has been produced, the different phases start.
Maturation of the oocytes
The first stage involves the application of hormones that stimulate the maturation of more than one follicle in the ovary so that more oocytes can be obtained.
A hormone is administered by a subcutaneous injection that the woman herself can apply at home; It is advisable that you always inject at the same time. This first phase lasts between 8 and 10 days. Depending on the reaction of each organism to the hormones, the age of the patient, previous cycles of stimulation, time of sterility, etc. a type of hormonal drug and different doses are indicated. The gynecologist always personalizes the treatment as much as possible.

Medical control
From the 4th day after starting with the injections, a medical follow-up is done to check how the ovary responds to the medication, they are repeated every one or two days to adjust the hormonal dose as much as possible.
Transvaginal ultrasound checks the number of follicles that develop in each ovary and the size they acquire. The diameter of the follicles allows to determine the moment in which the follicular puncture should be performed to extract the oocytes. It is also necessary to perform a blood draw to check the levels of estradiol (E2), which is the hormone responsible for supporting follicular growth.

Ovulation
Once the diameter of the follicles reaches about 18 millimeters and the estradiol levels are ideal, another hormone is administered to trigger ovulation.
This hormone is called hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) and is usually given between the 11th and 12th day of the beginning of hormonal treatment, it is only necessary to apply an injection. HCG stimulates the release of oocytes at about 36 hours of administration, so follicular puncture or ovarian puncture should be performed at that time.
Hormone preparation of the endometriumPreparation of the endometrium
Once the follicular puncture is performed to recover the oocytes, the third stage of the treatment, the endometrial preparation, must be performed. It is necessary to prepare the endometrium so that when the transfer is made, the embryos can be implanted and pregnancy occurs.
Approximately on day 15 of the treatment begins with the administration of progesterone vaginally, for about 10 days, so that the endometrium increases in thickness and is ready to receive the embryos.
During the whole process of hormonal stimulation, the patient has a support phone to consult all their doubts to the specialists of the center, and can practically live a normal life.
