Learning to identify them can be very useful for both you and your doctor, whether or not you want to avoid getting pregnant. It will also allow you to predict the date of your next menstruation , know early if you are pregnant, and alert you to possible changes in your health.

Fertility signs of women

This involves observing the three main indicators of fertility : the basal temperature, the cervical secretion and the position of the cervix.

Basal body temperature

Measure and aim your basal temperature every morning as soon as you wake up at the same time. Use a special thermometer as accurately as possible. Make a graph with the data for each month. Finally, record any reason that explains its variation.

Cervical discharge

Cervical mucus is the most important sign of fertility. It can be considered as the porter of the uterus, whether or not it allows the passage of sperm. Your secretions change in consistency, quantity and color every day.

When the ovulation approaches, your cervical mucus becomes transparent, viscous and elastic, being able to stretch between the fingers. These are the most fertile days, when that mucus acts as a freeway for the sperm.

Position of your cervix

In the first half of your menstrual cycle, before ovulation, your cervix or cervix will feel firm, closed and dry at the bottom of your vagina. Close to ovulation (days 12-14), it softens, opens and rises facilitating the path of sperm. A few days later, the neck becomes firm and closed again.

Choose a time of the day to check your cervical secretions and the position of your cervix, for example when going to the bathroom. Wash your hands and insert one or two fingers into your vagina. Registers if it is easy to reach (it is in low position) or difficult (in high position); soft or firm; entry slightly open or closed; dry or wet.
