The treatment of endometriosis should be personalized according to the age of the patient, extension of the disease, duration of infertility, reproductive desire of the couple and severity of symptoms.

  • Medical treatment: if the symptoms are mild, only analgesics may be necessary.
  • Hormonal treatment: oral contraceptives, combining estrogen and progesterone or alone, agonists of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), danocrine ...
  • Surgical treatment: is the best option for women with extensive endometriosis or who suffer severe pain and among them are laparoscopy, laparotomy or hysterectomy.
  • Natural treatment: traditional Chinese medicine, nutritional therapies, homeopathy, allergy control, immunological therapy.

In types I and II of endometriosis, medical treatment is only effective to relieve pain but does not improve the fertility of patients. However, surgery by laparoscopy has been associated with an improvement in pregnancy rates. In type III and IV endometriosis, laparoscopic surgery also improves the pregnancy rate.
